Primary Bed Renovation: ORC, Week 7

We tackled the last major installation for this bedroom renovation this week… the sliding door!

Goals for this week were to:

  • Finish and hang sliding door — DONE!

  • Veneer and seal the dresser — not done!

  • Trim corners and caulk — DONE!

  • Large format artwork — this will likely have to be finished post-challenge, but I have lots of great inspo and ideas saved!

I ended up getting some smaller, minimal pre-primed pieces of wood trim to finish the corners with. I probably could have saved some money cutting these down myself, but we actually had to finish this room up a week earlier than the normal eight weeks, so I was on a time crunch!

DIY Dad made it into town and we got the door hung! I was nervous about what kind of wall stud situation I was working with — it’s important to get each of the track screws into a stud so that it can reach its max door weight capacity. My rough calculations had my door at about 150 pounds, and the max capacity for the sliding door hardware I got was 220 — so we really wanted to get that right!

We ended up placing a few stud boards above the door opening to hit each of the pre-drilled holes in the sliding door track. We had plenty of studs up there already, but now it’s VERY sturdy lol.

It turned out insane — it’s even better than I imagined! Also, the hardware is a bit of a brighter white than my wall/paint color, that might drive some folks nuts but I LOVE mixing whites — I stick mostly to warmer white tones myself, but I don’t mind when a cooler/brighter tone is mixed in.
