Primary Bed Renovation: ORC, Week 4

Halfway there, baby! It’s been so fun to celebrate reaching the halfway point with the rest of the challengers. It definitely (finally) feels like it’s all coming together — with most of the major, heavy-lifting items complete.

As I mentioned last week, I’m definitely running a bit behind schedule — BUT I think I gave myself plenty of margin in the final weeks to account for things taking a bit longer.

Goals this week were to:

  • Install all shiplap panels — DONE!

  • Paint panels — DONE!

  • Painted and installed trim — NOT DONE, but I’m bumping this since I can really knock that out pretty quickly, without moving much stuff around

  • Finished Jemma’s bench — I got all the materials, and just need to tack on the last side!

  • Finished DIY dresser — I have all the materials, just need to build and finish!

The last few panels went up pretty quickly, since they were mostly full panels with just a couple of cutouts for the outlets. I cannot stress how important it is to get that first panel (in the whole room, and the first panel of a new wall) level — it makes the rest of them go up SO much more smoothly. I was worried about how wonky they were looking (because again, walls aren’t straight/perfectly square lol), but once I got the paint up, it honestly looks like it doesn’t even need trim!

I’m still doing trim because I love a lived-in, slightly imperfect look…. but not THAT imperfect ;)

It maybe would have been faster to use my paint sprayer for the panels, but I didn’t want to tape everything off (wasteful, and soooo much time), so I brushed the gaps and then went back over with a roller. I was generous with the paint so it covered perfectly in one coat! I still swear the perfect white paint color is Sherwin-Williams Pure White. It’s warm, but not yellowy — the perfect clean, crisp, bright, cozy white!

Next up is:

  • Finish Jemma’s bench

  • Finish DIY dresser

  • Install sliding door hardware

  • Start building (complete?!) sliding door

As always, I share process videos on Instagram — saved to the “orc main bed” highlight!
